Duluth’s 4th Street Market Closes Leaving Many Without Nearby Grocery Options
News broke yesterday that Duluth's 4th Street Market is closing its doors after being evicted by the building owners. They quit paying rent months ago due to a conflict with the owners about repairs needed to the building. A court date has been set, but for the time being the market is closed leaving many low income residents in the hillside area without a place to get their groceries.
Many of these people relied on the market being within walking distance to get their groceries. This could cause a hardship or an increased cost for transportation to get to the nearest grocery store, which is the Plaza Super One. That's not an easy walk for many with Duluth's hills and snowy sidewalks.
The hearing for the eviction is scheduled for February 21st. You can read more about the details of the story from Duluth News Tribune.
