Duluth Warming Center Open Through January 31st
Winter is here and in full swing. We all know what that means for us here in the Twin Ports: bitterly cold temperatures.
Due to cold temperatures kicking off the week and lingering throughout, the Rainbow Warming Center will be open. The City of Duluth made the announcement on their Facebook page Monday (January 25).
The Warming Center will be open through Sunday, January 31st. It will open at 8 p.m. through 8 a.m. the following morning.
For those wondering, the Warming Center is located at 211 North 3rd Avenue East in Duluth. It is located in the Rainbow Center.
In October, the Duluth Transit Authority announced they would be offering free rides to Duluth and Superior warming centers. Those who need a ride to the warming house may get one beginning at 7 p.m., which is one hour before the warming center opens. The following day, they can get a free ride through 9 a.m., which is an hour after the warming center closes for the day.
Those that want to give back and volunteer at the Warming Center are not able to do so at this time due to COVID-19. No donations are accepted at this time.
While it has seemed like a fairly mild winter so far, things are sure to get worse as we head into the rest of the season. Of course, we are used to this in the Twin Ports. Experts are predicting a harsh winter season, as a La Niña winter is expected to impact the midwest. This means more cold snaps and heavy snow.
