Duluth Police Release Road Closures And Detours For Fitgers 5K
Fitgers 5K gets underway this Saturday, April 23 and this year its full capacity will be a regular start to the race, but traffic needs to be diverted.
So here is what it will look like. According to a press release from the city and Duluth Police, the race will close some of Superior Street, London Road, and South Street between 4th Ave. E. and 23rd Ave. E. This year’s race will run out and the back to the east from the front of Fitger’s Brewery Complex, finishing in about the same place..
The release goes on to say that traffic will be shut down starting at 8:15 a.m., from Superior St. from 4th Ave. E. to 8th Ave. E., so that the start and the finish line can be set up. At 8:30 a.m., that's when Superior St. from 8th Ave. E. to 10th Ave. E., London Road from 10th Ave. E. to 23rd Ave. E., South St. from 15th Ave. E. to 20th Ave. E., and the avenues between London Road and South St., will be closed to traffic for the racecourse. Everything will open back up at 10:30 am.
The Duluth Police say, there will be "No Parking' signs put up on Superior Street, London Road, and South Street. They will be all along the racecourse areas that you read about above. If you don't move your car by the times above, Duluth Police will tag and then tow your car.
According to the press release, there will be some allowed on the avenues between South St. and London Rd., but vehicles will not be allowed to enter or enter the avenues during the closure time. Look for the signs and follow them.
Runners and spectators are encouraged to park either in the Fitger’s Parking Ramp, which you can get to from 3rd Ave. E., or along the streets and avenues above the racecourse.
Duluth Police say if you are coming eastbound please use 2nd Street, and westbound you are to use 3rd Street or Superior Street east of 12th Ave. E. to bypass the closures. If you are coming southbound on 21st Ave. E. you will be detoured at Superior St. to 26th Ave. E. if you want to get to Interstate 35. Northbound traffic on 21st Ave. E. from Interstate 35 will only be allowed eastbound, in a single lane, on London Road during the closure.
According to the press release, there will be businesses open along the south side of London Road that will have limited access during the race. For Example, McDonald’s Restaurant will be accessible via Jefferson St. to 21st Ave. E. during the race. The Endi Building will be accessible from either northbound 21st Ave. E. from Interstate 35 or from 23rd Ave. E. to South St. The London Road Vet Hospital will be closed on April 23rd.
Police Officers will be out directing traffic, so if you have questions about how to get somewhere, they will be happy to direct you to that area.
