It was an absolute beautiful evening at Wade Stadium Thursday evening for the 8th Annual Guns N Hoses Softball Challenge that pit the Duluth Police and Fire Departments against each other.  Yes, the Duluth Police Department won the game, but the Duluth Fire Department deserves a big congratulations too!

This is a fundraiser for the Northern Lights Foundation.  I sit on the foundation's board and on behalf of the board would like to thank the everyone involved in making the event happen year after year.  The numerous volunteers in many capacities, Duluth Police and Fire Departments, the Huskies for providing food and drink for sale with proceeds going to the NLF and of course, all that attended to cheer on their favorite team and donate to the cause.  At the time of writing this blog it was estimated that the donations from the event would total over $3000.  (not everything has been tallied to give you a defined total).

There has been a friendly rival between the DPD and the DFD year after year and the Guns have remained victorious.  Congratulations to the Duluth Police Department for extraordinary athletic ability.  However, the Duluth Fire Department has come through year after year with extraordinary fundraising abilities, raising the most for the event between the two by selling raffle tickets for incredible prizes by several donators.  As far as I can see, we are all winners, the DPD, the DFD and the NLF families!
