Every year, the Duluth Fire Department hosts a series of Car Seat Check Up events, where people can visit a fire station to ensure their car seats are properly installed and more. They select different fire stations in Duluth for each event, which are free to the public.
According to the CDC, a properly installed car seat is vital. It significantly reduces a child's risk of fatal injury (by over 70% for infants/toddlers) by absorbing crash forces, preventing ejection, and supporting the head, neck, and spine, whereas incorrect installation negates these benefits, leaving children vulnerable to severe trauma like whiplash, brain injuries, and fractures, because the seat isn't acting as designed in a crash.
A Car Seat Check Up Event plays an important role in keeping kids safe, and the Duluth Fire Department has scheduled 11 in 2026, and the first one is coming up fast.

First 2026 Seat Check Event In Duluth
According to the Duluth Fire Department, it saw a car seat misuse rate of over 80% at its check-up events last year, so they're excited to ramp up the program once again this year.
The first Car Seat Check Event for 2026 is set for Thursday, January 22nd, from 4 pm to 6 pm at Duluth Fire Station #7, located at 1419 Maple Grove Road.
It promises to be an informative session for parents and caregivers, where certified car seat technicians will be on-site to:
- Inspect your car seat
- Educate you on proper fitting and installation
- Share best practices and important state laws
