Duluth Named The Most Miserable City In Minnesota

What? There is no way this is true! Duluth was just named the most miserable city in Minnesota. While you have to take these studies with a grain of salt, this one does sting a little.

The study was done by Travel.Alot.Com, which ranked cities across the country based on average income, crime rates, poverty rates, and more. Sadly, it looks like nobody reading this list will be moving to Duluth anytime soon.

Why Was Duluth Named One Of The Most Miserable Cities?

This list cited three different reasons why Duluth is one of the most 'miserable' cities in the country: the household average income is lower than the national average, the crime rate is eighty percent higher than the national average and the poverty rate is about eighteen percent.

The study also cites our violent crime rate, which is about six percent higher than the national average. Yikes.

Where Did Duluth Come In On The List?

Duluth came in at number twenty-eight on the list, which means that it could be a lot worse? Even the summary for our cute little town mentions as much, writing that as far as miserable cities on this particular list go, people 'could do worse than Duluth' when all is said and done. Somehow, that doesn't make me feel better.

What Nice Things Did The Study Say About Duluth?

Because this was a list of the most miserable cities, not much. However, there is a silver lining. Unemployment is lower than the national average in Duluth and Minnesota, as a whole, is one of the safest states there is!

What Other Cities Are On The List?

Cities like Memphis, Milwaukee and Lakewood are all on the list. The list is a mix of big cities and smaller places. Like all studies, we have to take this one with a grain of salt. I don't think Duluth is miserable at all!

If you are looking at things like crime rates and poverty rates, it may seem like we are.  However, we have a beautiful city, a great community and a magnificent view of Lake Superior. While some things may not be working in our favor, I don't think we are miserable after all.
