I've never seen this ship before, and it definitely will make you do a double-take. It's the John D. Leitch, and it recently sailed into port. It's a one-of-a-kind ship, and no other laker looks like it.

My friend Vibe W/ Mike put the ship on his YouTube channel. I enjoy watching his videos because I am a "boat friend" and I find this stuff really interesting.

The John D. Leitch was built in 1967. It's 735 feet in length, and it was built in Toronto. It's been nicknamed the floating bank because the pilot house looks like something you have never seen. Its pilot house structure is right up on the bow; you don't see anything like this.

The ship came into Duluth to refuel and then load up on iron ore. Mike caught the ship entering the harbor, under the lift bridge, and then pivoted in the Duluth sunset.

What you don't see often, either, is a hatch open on the side of the ship. This port is from the engine room, and a sailor comes out to wave at the crowd.

So what do you think? Is it ugly or pretty? It's definitely showing signs of her age, but they just don't make them like this anymore. I like it! I think it's pretty cool to see some of these ships still on the Great Lakes, nearly 60 years later.
