We knew they were making a live-action Dora the Explorer movie — we even had a picture of star Isabela Moner as the title character (see above) — but today we got a bunch more information on this unusual TV-to-film adaptation. Officially titled Dora and the Lost City of Gold, the film’s first trailer arrives this weekend during the Kids’ Choice Awards. And here is its first poster:

I’m pretty sure Explorer isn’t her middle name, guys. That would be like if Neil Armstrong’s middle name was Astronaut.

We’ve also got the first official synopsis for the film, which confirms that this is an older Dora getting into more dangerous adventures than preschoolers have previously seen:

Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.

My daughters haven’t discovered Dora yet; if they had, I’m not even sure how I would approach this movie. Is it even for them? It’s hard to tell at this point, though I’m sure this weekend’s trailer will give us a better idea of the film’s tone and content. Dora and the Lost City of Gold opens in theaters on August 2.
