When I was a kid, we used to get special paint and would put holiday images on the window every year, people still do it.

I've seen some windows with images in them like Santa Claus, elves, and snowmen. Sometimes I wonder if it is plastic window stickies or if it's paint. Nowadays you can buy just about any image you want and not have to paint it, but if you are a person who wants to do something different or share a tradition from when you were a kid, there are some better paints to get to do it yourself.

Matt The Painter says you should use tempera paint. He says it dries fast, that it uses color pigments mixed with a binder. The most important point is that it is soluble in water, so the clean up is easy and comes fully off the window. The other thing is, it stays up until you clean it off. Make sure it's powdered tempera paint mixed with water, and a small amount of dish soap.

Wiki How also says you can use acrylic craft paint, that it is more solid and can be scraped off with a razor blade. They also recommend you mix a little dish soap in with your paint so that later if you decide to wash off it will come off easier.

Both websites say you shouldn't paint on the inside of the window, but that's what we did. First of all, you can't paint on the outside because it's cold and snowy outside. My family always painted on the inside. In fact, that's how I learned to paint backward so the words can be read when you drive by or walk by.

Both websites say painting on the outside makes it hard to see because of the reflection on the outside. I don't remember it being hard to see from the street, and at night you can see it and all the decorations on the tree and the lighting on the tree and completes the decoration when you have lights on your house as well.
