DNR: Recent Heat Wave Linked To Uptick In Dead Fish
Remember the monster heat wave that kicked off the month of June in the Twin Ports? It looks like we are still seeing some widespread impacts.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources issued a press release this week, stating that they have received "widespread reports of dead fish" across the state. They say the hot weather that started the month is probably a contributing factor.
According to the DNR, die-offs like this happen sometimes during spring and summertime in the state. They say that because of the hot weather, it is even worse this year.
So how can you help or is there anything you can do to remedy the situation? Thankfully, yes.

While we can't change the die-offs happening statewide, we can report a die-off if we see one. The Minnesota DNR says to reach out to the state duty officer if you see a die-off. You can call the officer at 651-649-5451 or at 800-422-0798.
While fish die-offs do happen and are nothing new, you should still report one if you see one, especially if it is a large group of dead fish. When you report one, the Minnesota DNR is able to go to the scene and get the information they need.
As for heat waves, it looks like another is on the way. The National Weather Service of Duluth says there is a chance we see another heat wave in early July, just in time for the holiday weekend.
If you are out and about between now and then, make sure to report any die-offs you may see.
