City Of Duluth Needs Snow Stompers To Help Pack Trails

Just by stomping those feet of yours, you could help out the City of Duluth. The Parks and Recreation Division is looking for 'snow stompers" - people who volunteer their time to pack down trails, making them more accessible for users during the winter months.

The program is back this year by popular demand.

By packing the trails, users who don't have snowshoes - or, need a more stable ground surface - are provided with more options to get outdoors in nature over the winter months. The City of Duluth will provide snowshoes available for volunteers to check out for free for the winter season.

Here are the trails that the city is looking for volunteers to become 'snow stompers' on:

Ely's Peak Loop Trail, Superior Hiking Trail (approximately 3 miles in length)
Green Street to the Lake Superior Zoo, Superior Hiking Trail (approximately 1.25 miles in length)
Lincoln Park Drive (approximately 0.75 miles in length)
Twin Ponds to 24th Avenue West, Multiuse Trail (approximately 1.95 miles in length)
Chester Rim Multiuse Loop Trail (approximately 1.16 miles in length)
Chester Creek Trail (approximately 1.75 miles in length)
Morningside, Vermilion Road to Jean Duluth Road, Superior Hiking Trail (approximately 0.96 miles in length)

Signing up to volunteer is easy. Just go to dulutmn.gov/parks.register and click the volunteer opportunities tab. The City will be soliciting volunteers in these slots until all of the volunteer positions have been filled.

The 'snow stompers' was such a popular program last year that it was brought back for this year. The activity makes an excellent outside event for people of all ages to take part in.
