I can't believe how many ice fishing houses I've seen out on Lake Superior lately.  Especially right out from 21st Avenue East, it's like a little fishing village.  With Spring just two weeks away, the U.S. Coast Guard warns the ice anglers.

Did you get to see the ice caves this past weekend?  If not you missed out being one of the 12,00 people that did.  If you were planning on visiting today or tomorrow you'll have to postpone due to a winter storm.

Did you get to see the ice caves last year?  I  regret I couldn't find the time to travel to Bayfield and see the amazing Wisconsin Ice Caves.  I just may get the chance this year based on the most recent decision of the US Park Rangers, in fact, keep this weekend open!

Did you get to see the ice caves last year?  I  regret I couldn't find the time to travel to Bayfield and see the amazing Wisconsin Ice Caves.  Original predictions looked good that we may get the chance to visit them again this year.  The verdict has wavered since then, but as of yesterday are once again looking somewhat favorable.

I can honestly say I've only witnessed a live moose in the wild once in my life.  It was just outside of Remer, MN on our way back from Walker.  He was standing in the ditch near the road lazily chewing his cud not really caring that we had stopped to gawk at him.  I guess we were gawking because you just don't see that animal out in their natural habitat very often.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is looking for public input as it sets deer population goals.  As an outdoor enthusiast, this is a genuine opportunity for your voice to be heard and to help create policies.

It's February 2, Groundhog Day.  The Lake Superior Zoo's porcupine, Spike will be playing the part of a groundhog today keeping the tradition of Groundhog Day alive in the Northland.  Do you remember the significance of Spike seeing his shadow?

The picture doesn't do the phenomenon justice.  As we were driving southbound on I-35 to the Carlton VFW to volunteer at the monthly steak fry Saturday afternoon I saw this small rainbow-like light in the sky.  I said it was a sundog and my husband, Homie questioned me on what a sundog is.

I can't believe I actually look forward to Harold's Wild Game Feed at the Carlton VFW now!  The first time I was invited I had SUCH apprehension.  I don't usually stray very far from the norm and Harold informed me that I was eating yak liver!  But, this year I brought something to share and tasted almost everything offered, except the turtle.

We know that living in the Northland is great because it's a fun melting pot of communities covering two states.  Now, Minnesota and Wisconsin are working together in a cool way for a habitat restoration project.

Did you get a chance to check out the Ice Castle at the Mall of America last year? If your planning on going back this year, take note: it will be in a new location. If you didn't go you might want to consider it, especially if you went to Lake Superior's Ice Caves and enjoyed that.
