Another supermoon is upon us and sadly, it's the last one we will see this year.

This new supermoon will happen on Wednesday, March 20th at 9:43 p.m. sharp. You can catch it just a few hours after we officially head into a new season: spring! (By the way - it's not common for a supermoon to hit so close to the official start of a new season. In fact, the two haven't happened this close together since 2000.)

According to National Geographic, the moon will reach its full phase appearing "14 percent larger and 12 percent brighter than usual" just before 10 in the evening.

This phenomenon is being referred to as the Super Worm Moon. It marks the third and final supermoon of 2019. While the name seems odd, the Old Farmer's Almanac reports that the namesake references this time of year, when earthworms start to emerge from soils after a rough winter. That leads to birds feeding on them which is a surefire sign of spring. Full circle!

Hopefully cloudy skies don't put a damper on our viewing pleasure! The National Weather Service of Duluth is forecasting wintry mix Wednesday morning with cloud cover sticking around into the overnight hours. I will still be looking!
