I can't lie - I would definitely get so excited about this, I would probably fall for it. Yup, there's another scam going around.

This one involves a 'big bonus payment' to Minnesota residents, again using a fake, large sum of money to actually con locals out of money.

This scam was reported by the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, sharing a warning to locals via social media on Tuesday (April 22nd).

Keep your eyes peeled for any fake ads circulating online, whether it be on social media or message boards, claiming to be sponsored by Northern Lights Casino. This is unlike any other scam I've heard about.

How This 'Northern Lights Casino' App Scam Works

According to the warning shared online, scammers have been creating fake ads claiming to be associated with Northern Lights Casino. As I mentioned, these are not affiliated, but it does create a pretty good ruse.

These fake ads definitely get your attention: they offer a $1,500 bonus to Minnesotans if they download a mobile app. This is concerning because there is no bonus and there are no mobile apps affiliated with the casino.

How To Protect Yourself + Others From This Scam

First and foremost, please note that online gambling is not available at Northern Lights or any other gaming enterprise affiliated with the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. That is the first major red flag that this is a scam!

Never download an app if you don't know the official source. You should also avoid, as always, giving out any personal or banking information at all times. This type of situation never ends well!

This scam is scary because you may not know that Northern Lights Casino doesn't offer online gambling, and you might get so excited about a bonus, you download it without thinking.

That is definitely something I would do. Be safe out there - until the next scam rolls around, which will be any day now.
