Carly Pearce Drops New Single Penned With Iron Range Native
Here's another incredible Northland country music connection: an Iron Ranger helped write Carly Pearce's new single.
You probably already know Emily Shackelton if you are a country music enthusiast. The two are constant collaborators, having written many songs together from Carly's first project to her latest critically-acclaimed album 29: Written In Stone.
Carly's very first single was also written along with Emily. Every Little Thing made Carly a big breakout star in country music and went to number one, breaking a bunch of records along the way. It was even the song that landed her a record deal.
From Carly's very first debut single to her latest single, the two continue to work together and have become a major power duo. It's fun that they started writing songs together before Carly was a major star and keep doing so even when she's one of the biggest names in country music.
Carly's new single will be a tune called What He Didn't Do. The two performed the song in Nashville before it was released and the internet went crazy when a clip of the song surfaced on social media back in January of last year.
The song is a different take on a breakup song. Instead of singing about what someone did (ahem, probably a fellow country singer) to her, Carly sings about the things a certain someone did not do. Like I said, this song became a social media sensation when the short clip was posted online.
Thankfully, she put the song on the extended version of her 29 EP and it quickly became a fan favorite. It seems Carly was listening because she just announced it as her next single and third from her latest album. She shared more about the song and what it means to her when she shared the news it would be hitting airwaves near you.
The song was written with Ashley Gorley as well. Carly shared details behind the song on her YouTube channel, saying it was the second song she wrote with her cowriters that day. She said when she was driving home that day, she knew that the song was special.
This song is about as real as it gets. It is definitely a standout on her latest album, which is full of sad breakup songs. All of them are incredible but there really is something special about this one. Future award winner? I think so.
There's no secret that Carly is on a massive hot streak. She is the reigning CMA Female Vocalist Of The Year and ACM Female Artist Of The Year. She has also won several other awards over the past few years and has snagged nominations in the top categories at the CMAs and ACMs.
Plus, she just made history with Ashley McBryde. Not only did the two win ACM Music Event Of The Year but Carly became the first female to win the category back to back since Faith Hill in the late 90s. The song also went number one.
Emily Shackelton has worked with many other major country stars as well. She has written hits with Mickey Guyton, Lauren Alaina, Jana Kramer and many others.
She's not the only Northlander that has a country music connection either. A Duluthian named Jordan Schmidt has written some of the biggest country songs ever over the past few years, most recently working on Tyler Hubbard's first solo single.
