Black Bear Golf Club : The Northland Signature Golf Hole Tour

Our Northland Signature Golf Hole Tour continues this week - presented by Duluth Dodge, as we highlight the signature hole at courses on the 2022 Northland Golf Card.

A signature hole is the most memorable, sometimes challenging, or fun hole at each course. We consulted with each of the golf club course managers to see what hole they felt was their signature hole.

This week we drove south about an hour from the Twin Ports to Minong, Wisconsin to golf at the Black Bear Golf Club.

The Black Bear Golf Club is a nice, fun, and well-maintained course. In the early spring, it's always warmer in Minong than in the Twin Ports or near Lake Superior. That's also helped this become one of the courses with the best green and fairway conditions we've seen so far. A tough, wet spring has been challenging for most courses. Black Bear in Minong had its challenges too, but it's weeks ahead of a lot of other courses for smooth fairways and smooth greens.

This week's signature hole is hole #14. Black Bear Golf Club names each of its holes and you can read about it on the scorecard. Hole #14 is called the Gitchigummi. Here's what they have to say about it:

This long Par 4 with water plays as our toughest hole. It demands a long, slightly left to right tee shot and usually a long iron second shot over water to a very large green. The legend lives on.
