No, I didn't have a kitchen fire, but after I saw how many crumbs I had at the bottom of my toaster, I thought it best to spread the word.  WHO KNEW that toasters have crumb catchers?  I always thought a crumb catcher was the cummerbunds guys got when they rented a tuxedo! Crumb-filled toasters are not only inefficient, they're also a fire hazard.  Here's five steps on how to properly clean your toaster.....

{1} Unplug the unit and make sure that it is completely cool. Yes, this should go without saying, but, well, it needs to be said.

{2} Remove the crumb tray from the bottom of the appliance and wash it in hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

{3} Tip the toaster over a garbage can and give it a good shake to dislodge crumbs.

{4} Wipe down the outside of the appliance, and then use an old damp toothbrush to scrub any remaining crumbs off and carbon buildup off the heat coils inside the toaster. Shake the debris out over a trash can again.

{5} Let the unit dry out completely before plugging it back in -- again, needed to be said, LOL.

Repeat the process on a monthly basis or more frequently if your appliance is used often.

When was the last time you thoroughly cleaned your toaster, include your toaster when you're Spring cleaning this year!
