26th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Campaign is Saturday
This Saturday, May 12, is the 26th annual Stamp Out Hunger Campaign with the National Association of Letter Carriers, a great campaign that makes it easy to help our community.
All you need to do is place nonperishable food items in a bag and leave them for your mail carrier this Saturday between 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Letter carriers and community members will collect food donations as mail is delivered along city routes. The food is then sorted and distributed to those in need within our community.
If you'd like to volunteer, the Northern Lakes Food Bank could use help for the following roles, as described online:
- WALKERS: Teams of 2 people with a car, van or truck to walk with a carrier or drive behind a rural carrier and pick up food throughout the day. Volunteers must be able to walk and carry heavy bags. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
- ROVERS: People to pick up food at pre-determined locations and be on call throughout the day to help carriers when their truck needs to be emptied of food. Rovers must have a vehicle, preferably a van or pickup truck.
- SORTERS: Volunteers to unload bags of food from the mail trucks as they come in off their routes at the Main Post Office on Michigan St. from 10:00-2:00 and 2:00-6:00. No children under 13 are allowed to help on the loading docks.
- RECYCLE CREW: Be available at the Main Post Office loading dock between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. to sort empty grocery bags that can be reused by the local food shelf.
Follow the link below if you'd like to volunteer and remember that any nonperishable food item donations help.
