I grew up in the country, we didn't need to register our dogs or cats there.  After several months of living in the City of Duluth my friend asked if I had a license for my pet.  WHAT?  Never had to before, so the answer was no.  Questions then came to mind, why, how, how much?  I hope this blog answers your questions and helps with the procrastination you've experienced getting your dog or cat licensed with the City of Duluth.

Any person possessing a dog or cat within the city should have their pet(s) licensed with the city. The license period is from January 1 to December 31 and must be renewed every year. If you have already licensed your pet, you will receive renewal notices in the mail each December.

LICENSE INFORMATION NEEDED:

  • Owner's Name, Address and Phone Number.
  • Pet's Name, Breed, Color, Sex, and Species (dog or cat).
  • Rabies Certificate stating the rabies shot expiration date, or birthdate if pet is too young. (Enclose in the mail, or bring with you to City Hall, the original document from your veterinarian. It will be returned to you.)
  • Spaying or Neutering Certificate if you pet has been altered. (Enclose in the mail, or bring with you to City Hall, the original document from your veterinarian. It will be returned to you.)

DO ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Mail the $8.00 fee plus the application and information listed above to the City Clerk's Office and the license, tag and any original certificates you sent will be mailed back.
  • Bring the $8.00 fee plus the information listed above to the City Clerk's Office between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday.
