Dogs are certainly popular in Minnesota these days, but just which breed of dog is the MOST popular in the Land of 10,000 Lakes?

That's the question the crew over at the Dog Advisory Council set out to answer, not just here in Minnesota but which breeds are top dogs in each state, as well. Using the American Kennel Club's (AKC) most popular breeds of 2022 list, they analyzed Google search volume data to discover the top five most popular dogs in each US state.

Now if you were thinking the most popular breed here in the North Star State was a familiar breed like a labrador retriever (which the ACK says has been one of the top breeds for like a zillion years now) or maybe a yellow lab or golden retriever, be prepared to think again.

And it's not just here in Minnesota that the Cane Corso is the most Googled dog breed, it's also the most popular in 45 other states, including Wisconsin, Iowa, Florida, Georgia, Connecticut, Indiana, and Michigan, according to this new Dog Advisory Council survey.

If you're like me, you might not know a whole lot about the Cane Corso. According to the Dog Advisory Council, here's some information about this mysterious breed:

Cane Corsos are somewhat intimidating in appearance, with a large head and rippling muscles beneath their short dark coats. The Cane Corso's Latin name roughly translates to 'bodyguard dog,' the perfect description for these incredibly protective and vigilant dogs. Despite this harsh exterior, Cane Corsos are affectionate with their family and eager to please them.

Now, not to cast doubt on this survey, but are Cane Corsos *really* the most popular breed here in the North Star State? I don't know that I've seen that many of them out and about, what about you?

Perhaps the reason that Cane Corsos are the most Googled dog breed in Minnesota is that not very many of us (like myself!) had even heard of them before, am I right? Meanwhile, if you want to see which breeds are the smartest in the US, and the most popular in the US, according to AKC ownership data, keep scrolling.
