Wisconsin Department Of Transportation Shares Important Reminder
This is definitely a little jarring. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is reminding motorists about some rules of the road.
They shared this reminder on Monday (February 24th), along with a pretty startling statistic about school buses on the road.

So what gives? According to their post, many motorists in the state are not stopping for school buses on the road. Of course, this is incredibly dangerous for so many reasons.
They also shared just how many people were cited for this very thing last year in Wisconsin: 1,276 traffic convictions were issued. Wow.
What To Do
This is a good reminder that you should never pass any school bus. In fact, you must come to a complete stop when a school bus is stopped with flashing red lights.

You should also stop at least twenty feet from school buses with flashing red lights. Do not get any closer than that. There is an exception and that is when you are driving on the other side of a road that is separated by a median.
Another type of physical barrier also works in this case. I always see people blowing past school buses which is so scary, since many times those buses are driving kids. They speed by without stopping, even in the winter when roads are slick.

This serves as a great reminder to stop for school buses when you need to. You might think you won't get pulled over for it but as the WisDOT just said: you will be!
