While we all know driving in snow can be treacherous, these dangerously cold temperatures also create some issues on roads.

That's why the Wisconsin Department of Transportation issued a timely reminder to motorists on Monday (February 17th).

They shared this reminder on their Facebook page, reminding motorists across the state that road salt takes a bit more time to work when it's as cold as it is statewide right now.

According to their post, the thirty degree mark is perfect for road salt and when it is the most effective. When we dip to about fifteen degrees, the salt starts to take longer to melt the ice.

Roads also refreeze faster when temperatures hit that fifteen degree mark. Brrrrrr!

That's Not All!

When temperatures drop to around the zero degree mark, that is when road salt takes even longer to activate. All of this to say: make sure you still take it easy and use patience when you hit the roads in the cold this week.
