New Specialty License Plate Design May Soon Be Available In Wisconsin
It's been an eventful year regarding license plate designs in Wisconsin. In January, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles officially began offering a new specialty license plate to benefit the Wisconsin County Forests Association, featuring a representation of a Wisconsin forest.
Then, later in the year, “Blackout” plates, the design that is hugely popular in Minnesota and Iowa, were approved in the state budget, along with a new retro yellow design license plate.
As for when those new designs would be available to the public, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation recently told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel it will “begin the design process to meet the goal of having the plates available for issuance in January 2026.” The plates are expected to provide a significant source of revenue for WisDOT.
Now, another new plate design is being proposed in Wisconsin, which would benefit a service organization that has been in the United States since it was founded on February 23, 1905.
Application Received For New Wisconsin Specialty Plate Design
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced it had received an application requesting a new specialty license plate from the Rotary International.
The public comment period on the application has now begun and will remain open through August 16.

The public comment period is the first step in a process for groups interested in sponsoring an Authorized Special Group license plate. The public can review each application submitted to become a special group plate and submit an objection if they do not approve of the special group plate.
Rotary International is a service organization that promotes integrity and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
The organization has seven areas of focus:
- Promote peace
- Fight diseases
- Provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
- Save mothers and children
- Support education
- Grow local economies
- Protect the environment.

Once available, a $25 donation for the foundation would be collected at issuance of the specialty plate and at the annual registration. This annual donation will be in addition to the regular registration fees and one-time issuance fee.
