WD-40 Is In High Demand In Minnesota Right Now, Here’s Why
I happened to notice the shelf was almost empty when I went to buy WD-40 the other day. I always have at least one canister in my garage and also one in my junk drawer. WD-40 is a brand that's been around forever and everybody knows it's a great lubricant.
I ended up using it yesterday for a sticky deadbolt. It turns out there's another use for it that I never knew about. It can be used as a great hack for Halloween.
A favorite Halloween tradition is to carve pumpkins. The problem is those beautiful pumpkins always seem to rot on your front step by the time Halloween night arrives.
Why You Should Spray WD-40 On Your Pumpkins
WD-40 actually can help preserve your pumpkins. Yes! It's true!
Once you're done carving your pumpkin, spray down the pumpkin with WD-40. WD-40 helps put a protective coat on it. According to Family Handyman, WD-40 is an effective insect repellent. It keeps the bugs away that want to eat your carving.
WD-40 can also prevent your pumpkin from freezing on our chilly, frosty mornings here in Minnesota.
When you shouldn't use WD-40
WD-40 isn't safe for animals to digest. So if you have a bunch of deer that come into your yard or lots of squirrels, you may not want to use this hack.
Also, you should make sure to use LED lights inside the pumpkin instead of a real candle because WD-40 is flammable. That would be a pretty spectacular jack-o-lantern for a minute.
Other hacks to preserve your pumpkin
There are some other ways you can keep your pumpkin carving fresh. One is to coat it with petroleum Jelly. Another is using a combination of bleach and water. Check out the video below!
