Watch Duluth’s Team Shuster Win 6th USA Curling National Championship
The Duluth Curling Club proudly boasts that they are the home of the 2018 US Mens Gold Medal Champions, Team Shuster. Now, they can another prestigious accolade to the team that calls the historic club home.
Team Shuster, which includes Chris Plys, Matt Hamilton, John Landsteiner, and Colin Hufman, had been competing all week at the 2023 USA Curling Men's National Championship at the Denver Coliseum in Denver, Colorado. As we all know, the tournament got off to an interesting start for the team.
On Sunday, February 5, the big headline from the opening day was the 10-6 upset of Team Shuster by Team Smith, the team that features former Minnesota Vikings star, Jared Allen.
As I noted then, however, it would be interesting to see how the rest of the tournament played out as Team Shuster was tried and tested. Turns out, that opening day setback may have served as the boost they needed to get on a big roll and win the whole thing.
The tournament ended Saturday, February 11, with Duluth Curling Club's Team Shuster winning their sixth USA Curling National Championship by defeating Team Casper of the Chaska Curling Center in Chaska Minnesota.
Team Shuster defeats Team Casper 8-3 to capture the Men’s title.
They had already beaten Team Casper once in the tournament, during the Page Playoff 1-2 Game, and they kept that momentum going into the final.
You can watch how their USA Curling National Championship match unfolded below.
All told, this is John Shuster’s eighth men’s national championship, but his sixth at the Skip position. Team Shuster will now prepare to represent the United States at the World Men’s Curling Championship in Ottawa, Canada, from April 1-9.
