We were at my father-in-law's for Sunday dinner, watching the US Olympic Curling Trials. It was Team Shuster against Team Casper to see who would advance. My father-in-law asked me if I knew John Shuster. Yes, I've known John for quite a while, so long that it didn't even occur to me that his team wouldn't advance.

Shuster was going for his record-setting 6th Olympic curling appearance. He already won the Bronze Medal in Italy in 2006, and then made history by winning the Gold Medal in 2018. Team Shuster was doing great at the trials, and it came down to the wire in a stunning upset by Team Casper.

This is the first Winter Olympics in 20 years that Shuster won't compete in. Let that sink in. 2 decades of Olympic appearances. How did he handle it? He rallied around those who beat him to support Team USA and US Curling.

'We want to see Team USA on the podium at every Olympics, whether it's us or the people behind us, we've learned a lot and we're going to pass that on."

His teammate, Colin Hufman, grabs the microphone and urges all of Team Shuster's fans to get behind Team Casper and give them the support they need for the next 3 months.

That's sportsmanship you can be proud of. It's easy to handle the wins, but the true test of who you are is when you lose. Nice work, Team Shuster.

Team Casper now advances to the next Olympic Qualifying event next month.
