On Saturday, June 12, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is hosting another opportunity for everyone to get outside as part of their Free Park Days series.

Free Parks Days are set days throughout the year when there is free entrance into all Minnesota state parks and recreation. According to the DNR, there's a state park within 30 miles of most Minnesotans so nobody should have to travel far to take advantage of these Free Park Days.

With a free day in each season, it's a great opportunity to get out there and explore someplace new - or visit an old favorite at a new time of year! Whether you stay for the whole weekend or just spend a few hours outside, you'll make memories that will last a lifetime.

Keep in mind the entrance fee waiver for fee-free days does not cover amenity or user fees for activities like camping, rentals, or special tours. The DNR has a handy, interactive tool to help you located a Minnesota state park regardless of if you're feeling adventurous or want to stay close to home.

Anyone who ventures out into a Minnesota State Park is advised to know the Key 3:

  1. Plan to be flexible. Explore new destinations, and try to arrive early in the morning. Parks are busy as more people get outdoors, so you should look to discover a new favorite this summer.
  2. Arrive prepared. Check visitor alerts and download maps before your trip. We encourage you to bring everything you might need as we transition back to full service.
  3. Recreate responsibly. If you are not vaccinated, please wear a face covering indoors and stay 6 feet from others. Help conserve these special places for the future by staying on trails and leaving no trace.

Minnesota state parks are open year-round and the June 12 date is the third Free Park Days of 2021. Mark you calendar for Friday, November 26, which is the final day in this series for the year. It'll help make Thanksgiving weekend even more memorable!
