PHOTOS: Gooseberry Falls State Park in Minnesota Has Flooded
It's been a stormy week throughout the Northland and while we had a little break in the middle of the week, more rain is expected into the weekend.
One area that was hit hard was Gooseberry Falls State Park. According to the DNR, the Gooseberry River watershed recently received 4-6 inches of rain during the storm, which led to fierce flooding at the park.
Because of the dangerous conditions the flooding has created, multiple trails and day-use areas at Gooseberry Park have been closed.
Gooseberry Falls Assistant Park Manager Captures Images Of The Flooding
On Thursday afternoon, the DNR shared photos of the park that were taken by Nick, the Assistant Park Manager. From the sample of the pictures below, it's easy to see why there are safety concerns and closures within the park.
That being said, the pictures are fantastic examples of the power of Mother Nature.
The DNR advises potential visitors to any Minnesota State Park over the next several days to first check for visitor alerts before you go to make sure they are accessible.
They note that many parks, including those beyond the North Shore, are experiencing severe flooding and closures of trails, bridges, and potentially campgrounds.
With more rain expected into the weekend, conditions have the potential to get worse in these parts of the state.
