Vikings Linebacker Eric Kendricks Restructures Deal to Help Salary Cap

Just over a year since he signed a five-year contract extension, Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks has agreed to restructure his deal to help the team create more salary cap space.

According to Vikings.com, the move allows the team to sign first-round draft pick Garrett Bradbury to his rookie deal.

They report that in his four years with the Vikings, Kendricks has led the team in tackles each season. In 2018, he totaled 122 tackles (coaches’ tally), 1.0 sack, 5.0 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and seven passes defensed. He also hauled in a career-high two interceptions.

While this move helps, the Vikings still have work to do to clear cap room heading into the 2019 season. The big question is what will happen with veteran TE Kyle Rudolph.

The Vikings had approached Rudolph about restructuring his deal, but those talks have stalled and now the rumors are swirling about the possibility of trading him.

While I'd like to see Kyle Rudolph play his entire career in Minnesota, I realize that something has to give for the Vikings to get the financial flexibility needed to address other positions on the field.
