UWS Receives $1.5 Million Donation from Swenson Family Foundation
The University of Wisconsin-Superior announced that they recently received a large donation for one of their student programs. The Swenson family made the 1.5 million dollar donation to the SURF program. SURF stands for Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship.
The program is now entering it's ninth year, providing funding to students and mentors for student-driven research. The idea came from Jim & Sue Swenson back in 2012, and the Swenson Family Foundation has been generously funding the student research ever since.
The program has allowed many students the opportunity to travel to attend conferences such as the National Conference on Undergraduate Research in Georgia, Montana State University, and other conferences across the country.
According to UWS, because of this program students are able to benefit from immersion in research and creative work. The traveling to conferences is a huge benefit as college students don't need to take on those financial burdens.
Chancellor Renee Wachter expressed her gratitude to the Swenson Family Foundation,
“We simply cannot thank them enough for what they have provided – and continue to do so – for UW-Superior, our inventive and talented students and faculty, and the UW-Superior Foundation. It is a lasting legacy that will influence generations to come.”
