UW-Superior Begins Search for New Women’s Basketball Coach
The University of Wisconsin-Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics are beginning a nationwide search for a new women's basketball coach.
The search begins after previous coach Zach Otto-Fisher resigned after completing his fifth year as head coach of the team. Otto-Fisher told UWS that he is stepping away for personal reasons, saying, "At this time, I need to step away from education and coaching and get back to my family and my faith. It was an extremely tough decision, but one that is best for my family."
Otto-Fisher was hired in 2016 and spent a season as the assistant coach under Dr. Don Mulhern, that season The Yellowjackets went 23-5 and qualified for the NCAA tournament. The next year Mulhern retired and Otto-Fisher was interim head coach, after the team had the exact same success the following season, he was made the full-time coach.
The University of Wisconsin-Superior sent out a press release, in it Otto-Fisher says, "UW-Superior is a special place to me, and I have enjoyed being able to build relationships with our staff, faculty, coaches, and most importantly, our student-athletes. The student-athletes are the pride and joy of this campus, and the work we do as coaches."
During his five seasons as head coach, Otto-Fisher had a winning record of 75-42, and in UMAC play, his record was 51-17. He was named UMAC Coach of the Year twice and won two UMAC regular-season titles and one UMAC tournament title.
Director of Yellowjacket Athletics Nick Bursik says, "During his tenure, the program had many accomplishments that can be attributed to his leadership. We wish Zach and his family the best in their future endeavors."
