USS Duluth Anchor Will Be Installed On Lakewalk Prompting A Temporary Closure

A few months ago I had mentioned that an anchor was going to be transported from Texas to it's home in Duluth.  It was sitting in a scrap yard, how sad!  The anchor will now have a dignified final resting place.  In order for it to be placed on the Lakewalk they need to temporarily close a portion of it.

The USS Duluth was a ship that was deployed to the South China Sea back in 1967.  Then in 1975 is was part of the evacuation of Saigon.  The anchor has been sitting in a scrap yard in Texas waiting for it's fate until it was rescued to be admired in the Northland.

The USS Duluth naval ship anchor will now sit on our city's beloved Lakewalk.  Plans are to install it on Tuesday, August 19.

That will require large equipment to be installed on the Lakewalk in order to move the anchor into its final position. Barriers will be in place along the Lakewalk by at 6:00 AM until about 11:00 AM from Endion Station to the Vietnam War Memorial. You won't be able to access that portion of the Lakewalk during that time. Superior Street should be used as an alternate route to reconnect to the other portions of the Lakewalk.
