Use Your Sewing Talent To Make Comforters For Kids In Crisis

We're on the heels of another fantastic St. Jude Radiothon, together we raised $74, 246 for the kids and research at St. Jude. The Douglas County Association for Home and Community Education (HCE) are also helping kids, but in a different way. They need sewing materials for quilts donated and if you are a quilter, YOU can make the difference.

I've always wanted to learn to quilt, but my sewing abilities cap off at sewing on a button. (and not very well I might add). There are times when kids aren't in need of food, money or toys. Instead they are looking for comfort and that could come with something as simple as a hand-made-with-love quilt. You know, that warm, fuzzy, snugly feeling you get from wrapping yourself up in a blanket or quilt? You can give the gift of THAT! That's why HCE is holding a Quilt-A-Thon! If you can't participate because of ability, they would be grateful if you could donate much needed materials to complete the quilt projects. Think about your half done projects you might have stuffed int the back of the closet. Dig them out, bring them in and warm you heart knowing they went to a child in need.

They are looking for:

needles for tying
scissors
juvenile fabrics (especially flannel material)
small, unfinished quilts to complete (36" X 36" to about 38" X 44")
yardsticks or measuring tape
sewing machine with bobbins and thread

The unique event will take place at the Mariner Retail and Business Center (formerly the Mariner Mall) on Thursday, March 17 from f10a-3p. Volunteers are needed so grab a friend and quilt from the heart.
