In a thrilling double overtime game, UMD beat national number one and NCHC regular season champs, St. Cloud State 3 to 2.

This will put UMD and St. Cloud State each in a bracket for the Frozen Four in a number one seed position. That would mean there is another chance for the NCHC to have two teams in the Frozen Four yet again.

Hunter Sheppard, who was the NCHC goalie of the year, had 36 saves and played a good game. You know what they say, you don't want to face a hot goaltender for a good team in the playoffs. UMD seems to be heating up at just the right time too. As they head into NCAA play as one of the favorites.

I would love to see St. Cloud State vs UMD in the finals for the National Championship. Not only would that speak volumes about how strong the NCHC is, but in my opinion the two top teams in the country. UMass deserves a shot and U of M Mankato too for being rated in the top of the nation for so long. Seedings are announced Sunday, March 24th, with play beginning on March 29th for the NCAA tourney.
