Twins Clinch American League Wild Card Despite Loss to Cleveland
After the Minnesota Twins defeated the Cleveland Indians Tuesday night, their magic number to clinch a spot in the American Wild Card Game was down to just one. Tonight they lost 4-2 to Cleveland, but they have clinched a playoff spot thanks to a division rival.
The Chicago White Sox defeated the California Angels late Wednesday night 6-4 in ten innings, which officially eliminates the Angels from the playoffs and put the Twins in the postseason.
They are the firs team in the history of Major League Baseball to lose 100+ games one year, then make the playoffs the next year.
The Twins now have time to get their key players ready for a one-game Wild Card playoff, most likely in New York against the Yankees next Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
The Twins will be the underdogs in that game, but they've been underdogs all year so you can never count them out.
