Minnesota and Wisconsin are full of lakes and other outdoor bodies of water to go swimming. While outdoor swimming in the Northland is possible in the summer months, maybe you want to take a dip in the winter. Or maybe you just like to enjoy time in the water without sharing space with fish and other aquatic creatures.
Whatever your motivation, there are some great places to play in the water or get a swim in around the Twin Ports. Obviously, you could stay at one of the many area hotels and enjoy their pool, but what if you want to swim without a hotel stay?
I did some research and found some great options of places where you and your family can go swimming for the day without getting a hotel room or paying a membership fee.

The Edge Hotel And Waterpark: Duluth, Minnesota
Many locals are aware of Duluth's tropical waterpark getaway - The Edge Waterpark. It is very steamy in the pool area but makes it very comfortable for anyone getting in and out of the water.
The beauty of The Edge is even though it is smaller than some other waterparks, they do offer something for kids of all ages. From the thrill of the slides to the giant water bucket and obstacles in the main pool, there is a lot to do.

Boarders Inn & Suites By Cobblestone Hotels: Superior, Wisconsin
This is the only hotel in the Northland that allows "non-guests" to use their pool. This hotel has a very spacious pool area with steps leading into the shallow end into a circle towards the deep end and is actually a pretty decent size.
Swimming is allowed Sundays-Thursdays, with the cost being $6 per person. They do ask that you bring your own towel if you're just heading to the hotel for a swim. Duluth Area Family YMCA: Duluth, Minnesota
The Duluth Area Family YMCA has been a huge part of our community for over 150 years through a variety of programs for kids and adults. On top of the multitude of programs and classes, they offer they also allow the general public to use the pool without a membership. The fee is $11.72 per day for adults and $5.72 per day for persons under 18. Take a tour of their facility in this video.
If you are interested in any of their programs or a membership they are available to everyone, regardless of your ability to pay. They offer scholarships and financial assistance program grants for free or reduced memberships. This YMCA is located at 302 W 1st street in downtown Duluth. Superior Douglas County Family YMCA: Superior Wisconsin
The Superior YMCA has 2 different pools one is the massive family pool which features a zero-depth entry and a 100-foot water slide. Other amenities include bubblers and a mushroom. Plus the water is warmer than average pools. They also have a four-lane 25-yard lap pool that is the perfect place for the lap swimmer.
The daily fees are as follows: Kids 2 and under is $ 2.50, ages 2-18 is $5.00 and 18+ is $10.00 per day. The pool is open Monday-Friday at 6 am and Adults may use the pool anytime when not labeled closed or reserved. This YMCA is located at 9 N 21st Street in Superior, Wisconsin. YMCA Essentia Wellness Center: Hermantown, Minnesota
This newer facility which includes the combination of YMCA programs along with Essentia Health Wellness programs is home to a massive aquatic facility with a lap pool, therapy pool, resistance river, and also a water play area for younger children. The pool area is open to the public for daily swim times without a membership. The daily fees are as follows $5.69 daily for children and $11.38 daily for 18+ years old.
