The Hermantown Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash on Wednesday night. Good Samaritans found the vehicle that had exited the roadway, crashing through trees and brush.

In the photos, you can see the driver traveled quite a distance off the roadway before being stopped by brush and trees. The vehicle was covered with branches when officers arrived, and the airbags were deployed.

When the passerby found the driver, she was singing along to the music with the airbags fully deployed.  The 21-year-old female was questioned by police at the scene. She admitted to drinking. She failed a field sobriety test and ultimately blew a .24 on the breathalyzer. That's three times the legal limit of .08.

The driver has been charged with a 3rd degree gross misdemeanor. A DUI becomes a 3rd-degree gross misdemeanor when there is at least one aggravating factor, such as having a prior offense, refusing a test, having a child passenger, or having a high BAC of over .16.

The Hermantown Police Department says they are seeing too many of these single-vehicle crashes lately, and alcohol is playing a role. They remind you not to drink and drive. Plan a sober ride.

With ride-sharing apps, taxis, and public transportation, there are plenty of options to get to and from your destination safely, without putting the public at risk.
