Who eats a burger at an Italian restaurant? That's what I thought when I looked at the menu and saw the burger options. I asked our server, Cathy, if the burgers were any good. She said they are terrific, and I wouldn't be disappointed.

It was our daughter's birthday and we had just celebrated a family meal this last Sunday that consisted of a ton of pasta. So I wasn't really in the mood for pasta when we went out on her actual birthday. She got to pick the restaurant, and for the first time in her 9 years on the planet, she picked a new place other than Guadalajara's. She wanted to eat at Valentini's.

Valentini's moved their location to Sugar Maple Drive in Hermantown. It was my first time there since the move. It's now Valentin's Bistro. It has a very nice, cozy atmosphere. It was busy too! Fortunately, we had called ahead to make a reservation.

So back to the burgers. They are half-pound burgers with their own seasoning. The Mafia Burger spoke to me from the menu. It's topped with provolone cheese, pomodoro sauce, and a touch of pesto on a Bianco bun.

Since my body rejects wheat and gluten, I got a gluten-free bun for a $1 extra charge. That's actually cheaper than most places. The burgers also come with brew fries. They are their beer-battered fries that are quite tasty, according to my kids. Two other family members got a build-your-own burger too. Yeah, I know. It sounds strange to get a burger at an Italian Restaurant. I don't regret it!

The seasoning blend for their burger is fantastic. The burgers were juicy and moist. The sauce and pesto were out of this world. Everything on the Mafia burger worked together. The gluten-free bun was actually good and not like the sawdust that you often end up with. The three of us that had burgers devoured them. It was so good you didn't want to put it down.

Bottom line: anything at Valentini's is terrific, including their burgers. Give it a shot and you won't be disappointed.
