The wind really picked up this afternoon in the Northland, and driving down Woodland Avenue I noticed the HUGE rolling waves on Lake Superior.  I decided to take a quick detour down to Canal Park to see them up close.  It was remarkable, and some of the biggest waves I've personally witnessed.

It's spring in the Northland, which of course means a winter storm warning!  If you find yourself stuck at home, pop some corn and enjoy of these three movies that are only better when there is snow blowing around outside.

History repeats itself, to a point.  The picture left is of a very good friend, Mary Jezierski.  She is a Northland girl, graduated from Proctor, attended UMD and worked as a reporter at the now Northland's Newscenter.  She lives in New York and we were able to speak to her Tuesday morning after Hurricane Sandy had hit the coast.

All eyes are on Hurricane Sandy, which is still a Category 1 hurricane expecting to make landfall in the U.S. on Monday evening.  It is shaping up to be one of the largest hurricanes to ever hit the Eastern U.S. with an impact area of almost 1,000 miles wide.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the most recent $100 million damage estimate will be a lot lower than the final tally.  Just today Moose Lake forced evacuations and other areas like Barnum are still uncovering new damage.  The bottom line is despite the storms being over, there is still damage being done.

Because of the massive flooding throughout the city, the Mike Moccasin Road landfill will be open extra hours, and will not charge residents for the disposal of their debris.   The free dumping begins on Monday, June 25th, and will continue until Monday July 9th.   The landfill will be closed July 4th.

It's undoubtly one of the best grocery shopping days in the Northland when a major snow storm is on it's way.  A month ago, we were forecasted to get 2 inches of snow, and the grocery store parking lots were packed. It's been a long time since we've been snowed in, at least a few years...

v Phoenix, Arizona looked like a scene from an apocalyptic summer blockbuster Tuesday night after a massive dust storm engulfed the city and its surrounding areas. The dust cloud appeared to be 100 miles wide and was moving between 50 and 60 miles an hour.
