Over $100 Million In Damage Estimated From Northland Flooding

I have a sneaking suspicion that the most recent $100 million damage estimate will be a lot lower than the final tally.  Just today Moose Lake forced evacuations and other areas like Barnum are still uncovering new damage.  The bottom line is despite the storms being over, there is still damage being done.

The Duluth News Tribune is reporting that Federal, state and local officials on Thursday began assessing damage from this week’s torrential rains and flash flooding in the Northland, and already are putting the price tag well beyond $100 million.

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton toured several sites in Duluth Thursday morning, describing the damage as “horrific," and promising any assistance the state could offer and pledging to apply for the region to be declared an official federal disaster to make more money available.

It is nice to have state and federal officials on board, but this will be a long road.  However,  I have faith in this amazing community and I believe we'll all come out of this stronger than ever.  In the meantime, be safe and be strong.
