While driving along Highway 2 through Ashland Wisconsin, we couldn't help but notice a  large double decker bus on the south side of the road.

I guess they figured out a pretty good way to catch your eye. We saw a sign saying something about "World Famous Gyros." It sounded good to us, so we pulled in and checked it out. There's never a bad time to try a new gyro place.

They had all sorts of stuff, but if someone says they have a world famous gyro, you eat the gyro. It was $9. A box of fries was 4 dollars.

The gyro was great! It's the kind of good gyro you expect to get at a gyro place. They offer a double meat upgrade, but honestly this didn't need it.  The sauce was good, the tomato was fresh, and the lamb meat was delicious.  The fries were really good too! They had a good seasoning on them and stayed nice and warm in a small to go box.

We ate the gyros in the truck, because I don't think there really is a dine in option. We ordered through the window of the little building and never went inside.

When I was looking up this place on the internet, I also discovered something pretty sad. It turns out the owner recently died from COVID-19, so his widow and their family are carrying on the business as a tribute to him.

So the name of the place now is Pita Hut Ticky's Famous Gyros. It's located at 1020 Lake Shore Drive in Ashland.

It's a fun touristy type of place with good food. It's definitely worth a stop when you're driving through. You can even see the strange people hanging above.  Is this a tribute to a circus? Is this a lookout tower? Not exactly sure.
