Northern Wisconsin Waffle House Was A Delight With Specialty Waffles, Gluten-Free + More
Sunday was our anniversary, and neither of us was in the mood to cook breakfast. So we treated ourselves and our kids to breakfast out. We had never been to Superior Waffles, but we decided to give it a shot.
We had big plans of getting up, walking the dog over there, and enjoying the dog-friendly outdoor patio. We woke up Sunday and we figured we wanted to check it out without wrestling our 70-pound dog. (We will get that exercise next time!) So, we hopped in the car and drove to their location on Tower Avenue.
The place was bustling and there was a line of people at the order window. But, the line moved pretty fast, and it took us a few minutes to decide on what we wanted anyway. I honestly have not had a waffle in about 5 years. I have a crappy gluten intolerance, so waffles have been off-limit. I heard they had gluten-free so that's what I tried. I also got chocolate sprinkles and drizzle on top.
My wife was daring and ordered the Chicken + Waffle. It's chicken tenders drizzled with syrup. You can add hot honey to it as well.
Our son got the Superior Classic waffle. It's just a plain waffle that he added powdered sugar and syrup to. He raved about how good Superior Waffles was, and we gave him a hard time because he ordered the most basic thing.
Then came Jane's 'Celebration Waffle." This was a real head-turner as it came from the kitchen.
Yep, that's a waffle with whipped cream, ice cream, and sprinkles. She wasn't able to eat it all, but she did her best.
All of us loved the waffles. It was a real treat for me to have my first waffle in probably 5 years. The gluten-free takes a few extra minutes, but it's worth the wait.
It was a very clean cafe. My wife and I both commented on how clean everything was even considering how busy they were.
I almost forgot to mention the best part: free refills on drinks. I was actually walking to throw away my Tiger beverage when a staff member offered me a refill. How nice is that?
Superior Waffles also displays art from local artists on their walls. It's a very inclusive place.
Be sure to check out the waffle paraphernalia area as well.
While we were waiting to order we also checked out the map where people have come from all over the world already to try their waffles. Pretty neat!
