Star Trek Into Darkness Review

A few years ago, when Star Trek was rebooted with JJ Abrams at the helm, I was very cautious.  I worried that they wouldn't do the series justice with a new, younger cast.  My fears were quickly calmed after watching the first Star Trek movie with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, etc.  Now, after watching Star Trek Into Darkness, I am thoroughly impressed with what they have done.The first movie was a good set up to create a platform of the alternate universe where anything can happen.  It was a great idea to create the freedom to do whatever they wanted.   Otherwise, they'd have to follow every single detail of trekkie history.

The alternate universe does play nicely in this film.   Without giving away details, there will be many times that a long time Star Trek fan like myself will smile and say, "Ooooh, nice tie in!"

This movie has everything you would want from a Star Trek movie, except more of it.  Plenty of action, space battles, humorous moments, hand to hand combat, and stunning visuals keep you on the edge of your seat for the 2 1/2 hours.

The cast of Star Trek also did an amazing job.  Chris Pine is what you would expect a young Kirk to be.  Zachary Quinto does a very believable Spock once again.   And if anybody would have told me they had cast Karl Urban as McCoy I would have laughed, but I find his performance as one of the best.   He gets more lines in this movie and he delivers magnificently.  Simon Pegg as Scottie is good as well, although he offers more comic relief than the old Mr. Scott.

I've mentioned how much this movie has satisfied me as a Star Trek fan, but even if you have never seen a Star Trek movie it will be enjoyable. This movie can stand alone, and if you wanted to enjoy it more, you can always go back and discover the other films.

The only problem I had with the film, could just be my own fault.  I speculated and figured out the ending a good 30 minutes before the end.  But, not everyone else did so maybe I was the exception.

Out of 5 stars, I give this movie 4.5.  I'll go as far also to say it is one of the best Star Trek films yet, if not the best.
