It's been a winter, hasn't it? We've already made the top 10 snowiest winters in Duluth's meteorological records. In fact, back in December, we had the snowiest December on record. We started out with wet, heavy snow and it continued throughout the year.

That even caused the Miller Hill Mall roof to collapse, causing all the businesses to lose revenue. Fortunately, no one was injured. That's a blessing. That's brought snow load weight to mind for many homeowners. Snow can literally add tons on homes' roofs.

In this most recent winter storm we had brought only around 5 or 6 inches of snow at most in the Hermantown area, but that was too much for this garage.

A friend of mine in Hermantown arrived home to see the destruction of his garage roof. Unfortunately, it caved in and caused extensive damage to the structure.

It didn't look that bad from ground level, but once they entered they saw just how bad it really was.

The worst part? The owner had two sports cars in the garage. One is a customized Chevrolet Corvette that took the biggest hit.

You can see the mess that includes insulation, sheetrock, the garage door opener, and more. What a pain in the butt.

Needless to say, a lot of weight came down on this classic muscle car.

The owner had another sports car, a Mercedes convertible that was under the cover. That received some damage as well.

The damage to both cars hasn't been fully assessed yet, as the owner and friends are working to secure the structure and contact insurance agencies. They were planning on attending Motorhead Madness at the DECC this weekend, but instead, it seems they have their own madness on their hands.

This was a sweet Corvette, and it's just a shame to see it happen. The owner had even removed some snow from his roof, but as he said, "apparently not enough." Too bad.

If you hear creaking from your roof, notice water leakage, or sagging ceiling tiles you probably need to remove the snow from your roof. There's likely more snow coming, and that will add to the tons of weight on your home already.
