Scammers are still desperate for money it seems. There are so many scams circulating this time of the year and scammers certainly aren't wasting any time in the new year finding new ways to con people. There's not another one in Minnesota to be aware of.

This one was shared by the Dakota County Sheriff's Office on Monday (January 8th), writing that they had received 'several' calls since the new year about this particular scam. Dakota County is only a few hours from the Duluth area.

According to their post, scammers are posing as a particular Sergeant with the office there. The scammer poses as the member of the law enforcement team and demands money from people who pick up the phone!

The thing that makes this scam stand out is that the scammer told the person on the other end of the line to deposit the money into a kiosk. Most scammers will ask for personal information or banking information but this one wants the physical money and in person.

This scammer was so convincing that one person even took money out of their account before realizing it was probably a scam. As always, be cautious of who you are giving money to. Thankfully, this is as far as the scam went for now.

A cop or sheriff won't ask you to take out cash and pay them for something and if something seems off, it's okay to hang up and do a little research before acting on their request. If you do get a weird call like this, report it to your local police department. Sigh.
