National Night Out is something our neighborhood looks forward to every summer thanks to the Winklesky family!  They host a HUGE picnic complete with kids games and prizes!!  They provide the BBQ and everyone in the neighborhood brings a dish to share.  It's a great time to connect with people you may only wave to every other day of the year!  If you are planning an event, the City of Duluth would like you to register it with them.

This year, National Night Out will be on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2016.  It doesn't just happen in neighborhoods throughout Duluth, but communities nationwide.  The full name of the national event is the 33nd Annual National Night Out (NNO) Crime and Drug Prevention Event, that is why it is co-sponsored locally by the Duluth Police Department.  The event shows that neighborhoods have camaraderie and are fighting back against crime.  It also gives our local law enforcement and fire fighters a chance to visit with the people in neighborhoods they serve.  Last year there were more than 53 block parties that were registered and many more that happened unofficially.

So what happens at these events?  You could have a BBQ, invite local law enforcement or firefighters to stop by for dinner, youth activities and games and anti-crime rallies.  Does that sound like fun, something you'd like to host?  If so, you should register your event. Just email Pam Kleinschmidt at pkleinschmidt@duluthmn.gov then get your neighbors together to plan an unforgettable rare evening of spending time with those you live near.
