It's a common problem and one that doesn't have an 'easy' solution that's always safe.  Disposing of unused, unwanted, or no longer needed prescription medications can be a problem for many.  You can't just throw them away or flush them down the toilet; those methods leave the drugs available to fall into the wrong hands for misuse and they also contaminate the environment.

That's why a variety of community agencies routinely have Drug Take Back Events - scheduled to allow the general public access to convenient, proper disposal options for their old prescription medications. The next of those scheduled events is coming up.

Representatives from the AODA Community Coalition of Douglas County and the Superior Police Department will be on hand at the Superior Public Library on Friday, October 22.  From 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM, the general public is invited to stop by to have their unwanted prescriptions properly disposed of.

Generally speaking, all prescriptions, over-the-counter supplements, pills, and liquids will be accepted at this event.  Participants are asked to leave the labeling on the bottles and packaging.

While this Prescription Drug Take Back Event makes things convenient and puts the focus on the methods of proper disposal, there are options available throughout the year as well.  Permanent drug take-back boxes are always housed - year-round - at the Superior, Iron River, and Minong Police Departments as well as Walgreens In Superior. These locations are open to anyone during their host-sites normal business hours.
