Can You Actually Walk Anywhere on Park Point Beach?
I ran across a question posted in the Duluth Reddit page about Park Point. They showed a circled area of the beach near the Aerial Lift Bridge, asking if it was a public beach. Fortunately, people were courteous online and helped her.
She was asking because it was her second time visiting Duluth, and they were staying at the South Pier Inn, just across the street. They were looking for the closest beach area.
All of Park Point Beach is public, but...
Park Point beach is public from the high water mark to the water. Basically, the beach until you get up into the grass area. It's usually pretty clear when you are entering someone's yard, which is not allowed.
The entire beach is public, but access to it isn't. You can't cross through someone's yard or driveway to get to the beach. There are quite a few public access places, and a small parking area just a few blocks after you cross the lift bridge.
Minnesota Point Dune Restoration Project - Stay Out
The Minnesota DNR has a current project trying to rebuild the sand dune near the lift bridge. The fences put up are to allow sand to naturally blow in and accumulate through the slats. Signs are posted to not walk in the area between the fences. It's one of the methods they are implementing to stop erosion that has been occurring in recent years.
No Fires Allowed At Park Point
There are no fires allowed at Park Point, unlike across the border at Wisconsin Point. Winds can kick up quickly off the lake and spread the fires into residents' yards and homes. There is a $200 fine for a fire on Park Point.

Fires ARE Allowed At Wisconsin Point
In my opinion, Wisconsin Point is a much better experience than Park Point. It's just a bit of a drive to get past Alloueze Bay out to Mike Moccasin Road. But the beauty of Wisconsin Point is that it's wilderness, and fewer people. It's the same Lake Superior, just with a more natural approach. And, wildfires are allowed at Wisconsin Point. In fact, the city has encouraged them in the past to clear up driftwood at Wisconsin Point.
