This Vintage Hershey Wrapper Was Found In Historic Duluth Building – Guess How Old!
This is kind of fun! A major renovation project is well underway at one of Duluth's most historic buildings. A whole team of community members and investors are working on the multimillion-dollar project to bring it back to life. They've shared some photos of the progress being made and found this fun anecdote. A vintage Hershey's Chocolate Bar wrapper was found in the ceiling recently.
Duluth Armory Reconstruction Project
It was found at the Duluth Armory. The $58 million restoration project is happening now, and plans are to complete it by the fall of 2026. The Armory will feature "community space for economic and entrepreneurial development, arts and culture, and a place for history to come alive for future generations."
I had the chance to tour the Armory and learn more about the project this last fall. It's a big project, but I'm so excited to see what they do with it. There's so much history and so much future potential at this place.
Melissa, the marketing and outreach manager for The Armory, sent me some updates and included some photos of the work they are doing. One of the fun things they found was this vintage Hershey's Chocolate Bar Wrapper.
How old is this wrapper?
I did some internet sluething, and after a little bit, I was able to narrow it down. There's actually a website that chronicles the wrapper designs and labels over the years. Who knew?

Seeing it was only 5 cents for a chocolate bar had me thinking this was the early 20th Century because that's pretty darn cheap in today's dollars.
It's Pre World War II
This wrapper, from as far as I can tell, is from 1936-1939. That's from the Great Depression! Hershey actually has a community archive, and you can see the wrappers from as early as 1900. That's pretty cool, right?
