A popular brand of foot spray is involved in a nationwide recall.  Blistex, Inc. has announced the voluntary recall of two of their Odor-Eaters spray products due to the presence of benzene.

According to details released by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the company is recalling "a total of forty one lots of two Odor-Eaters spray products":  sold as "Spray Powder" and "Stink Stoppers". The affected Odor-Eaters spray products are used as antifungal and foot odor-reducing products, sold in aerosol cans.

The complete list of Odor-Eater spray products include in the recall, along with UPC numbers, lot numbers, and expiration dates can be found on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website.  Blistex, Inc. has also established a recall website landing page that fully shares the necessary details and provides a link by which to apply for a refund.

The concern with Benzene is that it's a known human carcinogen.  "Exposure to benzene can occur by inhalation, orally, and through the skin and it can result in cancers including leukemia and blood cancer of the bone marrow and blood disorders which can be life-threatening".

It's worth noting that at this present time, there have been no known reports of adverse affects or events related to the recall or to Odor-Eaters products.  The recall effort is voluntary, resulting from internal testing that identified low levels of benzene contamination in the specific lots associated with these aerosol products.

Customers who have cans of the recalled product in their possession are urged not to use them.  Dispose of them properly or return them to the point of purchase for a refund.  You can also use the established recall landing page.
